Otocephaly is a rare, congenital, fatal defect and the result of the abnormal formation of the first brachial arch, which is introduced by hypoplasia or aplasia in the three structures of the mouth, lower jaw, tongue, and deviation of the ears towards the midline. There is limited information on the origin of this defect in animals, which indicates the existence of a relationship between the occurrence of the said defect and the PRRX1 andOTX2 genes. In a semi-intensive sheep farm in Bastam city (Semnan, Iran), a live mixed-breed lamb was examined immediately after birth. The studied lamb had mouth hypoplasia, lower jaw aplasia, tongue aplasia, anophthalmia, and cleft palate. In the mentioned lamb, there was no deviation of the ears towards the middle line of the body. The studied lamb died 10 minutes after birth. According to the findings recorded during the examination, it seems that the studied lamb had an autocephaly defect.
